Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk has been left wanting more from his players after Matthijs de Ligt made another error that led to a goal in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Germany. The Manchester United defender’s
latest error cost United a goal in the 5-2 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and he made another as the Netherlands tried to build up from the back, but his miscue was intercepted by Jamal Musiala to make the equaliser in the 38th minute.
Van Dijk, who partnered De Ligt, was left furious and pounding the floor before gesturing at the former Bayern Munich and Juventus defender.
While some have suggested that the Liverpool centre-back was harsh on his club rival, De Ligt will no doubt value his opinion, having given him the highest praise in 2022. When asked by สมัคร ufabet if they were the best partnership in international football, he responded: “We could be, I don’t know.
“That’s not for us to decide or for us to say. Plus, we play with three at the back, but I know what you mean. I think Virgil is one of the best centre-backs in the world. He is amazing. He has already shown for a couple of years that he is one of the best, if not the best.
“If we could be the best? I don’t know, the most important thing is that we play good as a team. You can play good as a partnership, but if the whole team is playing bad, then it’s no good.”
De Ligt was eventually substituted at half-time for Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke.
Asked about the 25-year-old’s mistake after the game, Van Dijk warned his compatriot:
“This is football. You have to learn this. It’s just a moment. But in high-level competitions you get punished,”
